Bus Driver – Michigan State University

Position Summary (Basic Job Function): This is a temporary position. Drives a passenger bus transporting students, faculty, staff, and visitors on and off campus in regularly scheduled and charted runs.

Unit Position Summary

IMPART Alliance is dedicated to training and elevating the Direct Care Worker (DCW) workforce in the state of Michigan. We are seeking a detail-oriented individual to drive, operate, and oversee maintenance of a 45 foot long mobile training unit. This individual may also assist with training DCWs in the field. This role requires general mechanical knowledge, good communication and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain accurate maintenance records. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, efficiency, and initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Map out directions to and from training locations avoiding narrow roadways as well as low bridges and overpasses.
  • Troubleshoot and fix minor problems with the mobile unit while in transit to and from training locations as well as during trainings.
  • Assist in training direct care workers.
  • Oversee maintenance schedule for the mobile unit and take it to scheduled maintenances.
  • Perform general maintenance such as washing the outside of the vehicle, filling tires with air, and checking seals around slides, windows, and doors.
  • Ensure the vehicle has a full tank of fuel after each trip.
  • Secure the mobile unit after each trip.
  • Set up and tear down of the mobile unit including, but not limited to, securing furniture, supplies, and cabinetry inside the unit; deploying and retracting slide outs; deploying and retracting awnings; setting up audio/visual equipment; stowing and operating the wheelchair lift; lowering and stowing stairs; stowing equipment in outside storage areas; filling and emptying the freshwater tank; emptying the hot water heater and the dark water tank; and setting up the outside area to receive attendees.

Requirements / Desired Qualifications

  • Class B CDL
  • Recent experience driving a Class B or Class A vehicle
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor problems that would normally occur when operating a mobile unit with slide outs and a generator
  • Able to safely lift 50 lbs
  • Experience in direct care work. If no prior experience, will be expected to complete training with IMPART Alliance within 3 months of hire
  • Experience training adult learners
