Job summary

Whitfield County, GA seeks a Transit Bus Operator to operate the Whitfield County Transit System buses, transporting citizens to and from designated locations. The role requires a valid GA CDL with passenger endorsement and strict adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading passengers, routine vehicle care, and timely reporting. Bilingual Spanish-English skills and prior bus driving experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Geographical knowledge of the area.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal traffic laws/regulations.
  • Valid GA CDL license with passenger endorsement.
  • No reckless driving or DUI convictions within five years and/or fewer than two moving violations within 12 months of employment.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Bilingual: Spanish-English
  • Previous bus driving experience

Responsibilities

  • Safely operates buses over county/city roads at sustained legally allowed speeds, in a manner that fosters a safe and conscientious image to the public.
  • Conducts safe and orderly loading and unloading of passengers.
  • Attends meetings pertaining to the job.
  • Performs routine operator care: washing the bus; sweeping interior; refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, checking equipment and reporting defects; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety, cleaning Dispatch office and/or work areas and presenting bus for regularly scheduled maintenance.
  • Accomplishes and submits mileage reports and bus conduct reports, as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring all accidents are immediately reported to the Dispatcher Coordinator.
  • Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure the safety of other employees and the public.
  • Ensures cleaning list is completed during shift, including sweeping and vacuuming floor, taking out trash, wiping down all surfaces, dusting, cleaning restrooms and kitchen area, shredding documents, and emptying shredder.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED;
  • geographical knowledge of the area;
  • considerable knowledge of: local, state and federal traffic laws/regulations,proper use and operation of two-way radio equipment;
  • or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • No reckless driving or driving under the influence convictions within five years and/or fewer than two moving violations within each 12 months of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain the following certifications: valid GA CDL license with passenger endorsement.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual: Spanish-English
  • Previous bus driving experience

  • Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
  • Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, or toxic agents.
