Job summary

Chickasha is seeking a dedicated School Bus Driver to provide safe, reliable transportation for students on assigned routes, maintain a punctual timetable, perform daily vehicle inspections, and foster a positive and respectful environment for riders and staff.

Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED, a Valid Oklahoma Class B CDL with school bus and air brake endorsements, an acceptable driving record, and the physical ability to lift 20 lbs, climb stairs, and administer basic first

Qualifications

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License/Class B CDL with school bus and air brake endorsement.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Physically capable of performing prescribed duties.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a school bus, maintaining a time and safety schedule.
  • Interact positively with children, parents, teachers, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records; mileage, load and time records as required.
  • Inspect school bus, notifying bus mechanic of any mechanical problem.
  • Observe all state and federal traffic safety laws.
  • Observe regulations in the CPS Transportation Handbook.
  • Maintain proper discipline of passengers on bus.
  • Keeps bus clean, including sweeping floors and washing windows.
  • Provide special care and assistance as appropriate if passengers are handicapped.
  • Control loading/unloading of bus at designated stops to ensure safety.
  • Report all accidents and complete required reports.
  • Comply with federal and district drug/alcohol testing regulations.
  • Respect the privacy of confidential matters relative to students, patrons and personnel.
  • Use good judgment at all times.
  • Comply with Hazard Communication Program.
  • Attend quarterly safety meetings as scheduled by the district safety coordinator.

Position: School Bus Driver

Purpose of Position:
To provide safe and efficient transportation in order to assist students in achieving educational success.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED

Valid Oklahoma Drivers License/Class B CDL with school bus and air brake endorsement

Acceptable motor vehicle record

Physically capable of performing prescribed duties

Physical requirements:

  • Good health and high energy level

  • Ability to lift objects weighing 20 lbs. or more

  • Ability to climb & descend steps

  • Extensive sitting & bending

  • Ability to tolerate a stressful environment

  • Ability to lift objects above shoulder level

  • Good vision and hearing

  • Ability to pass an annual physical examination

Skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Ability to read warning labels and safety documents

  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and oral instructions

  • Ability to communicate by giving comprehendible oral instructions

  • Ability to perform basic numerical calculations

  • Ability to perform routine tasks without close supervision

  • Plan, schedule and organize work

  • Attention to detail

  • Physical skills to drive a school bus

  • Ensure the quality of work as measured against established standards

  • Ability to administer first aide and CPR

Essential Job Functions (The duties listed below are not intended to depict all tasks required by this position. Duties may also be divided among staff as directed by the Supervisor)

  • Comply with School Board Policy

  • Be alert to safety conditions; anything found unsafe should be reported to supervisor and rendered safe as soon as possible

  • Communicate and confer frequently with the Assist. Superintendent. of Maintenance & Transportation

  • Comply with relevant laws and procedures for the storage, use and disposal of chemicals, trash, rubbish, waste and blood borne contaminated items

  • Drive a school bus, maintaining a time and safety schedule
