Job summary

Archdiocese of San Antonio Careers is seeking a part-time School Bus Driver to ensure safe transportation for students to and from school-related activities. Summary

The School Bus Driver provides clean, safe and reliable transportation and ensures that students enjoy the full advantage of school programs and activities, especially field trips. This is a part‑time position with hours as needed.

Description

FLSA Status: Part‑time, Hourly
Work Schedule: Variable hours
Reports to: Principal

Position Responsibilities
  • Transports students to and from school and school‑related activities in a safe manner.
  • Appropriately operates all vehicles and equipment in fleet.
  • Communicates effectively with members of the school and community.
  • Fosters a joyfully Catholic and classical culture during transport that is an extension of the school culture.
  • Handles bus and students in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to relate well to students.
  • Inspects bus prior to and after each route or activity trip.
  • Maintains bus in a clean condition and informs the school of any routine maintenance or repairs required.
  • Adheres to Archdiocese health and safety policies.
  • Follows all school‑specific protocols and policies.
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well‑being of self and others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization, including but not limited to client names, services rendered, donor names and gifts, internal and external investigations, or financial information.
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution‑oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education
    • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • License and Credentials
    • Valid Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and school bus endorsements.
    • Obtain school bus driver certificate.
    • Ability to pass DOT drug and alcohol test.
    • Ability to pass annual physical.
    • Acceptable driving record as required by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
    • Must pass background check.
  • Required Skills
    • Ability to speak, read and write English.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively.
    • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Knowledge of student discipline procedure and manage student behavior.
    • Ability to operate school bus.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills
  • Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.
  • Must be very customer service oriented.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self‑motivated, work well independently and on a team.
  • Must have good written and verbal skills.
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
