Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Scale: AFSCME UA2, Grade 6-7

Salary Scales Information

Education and Work Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Five (5) years of successful work experience as a school bus attendant in Maryland preferred.
Qualifications
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects and climbing.
  • Sufficient physical strength and stamina to assist students with disabilities on and off the bus, including bodily lifting when needed.
  • Must submit to a criminal background check as per COMAR regulations.
Essential Job Functions
  • Complete training to assist students with special needs.
  • Maintain order and report misbehavior aboard the bus.
  • Assist students with physical, sensory, emotional, or learning disabilities during bus transit.
  • Escort and physically assist students on and off the bus.
  • Secure students with safety restraints and assist in emergency evacuations.
  • Check equipment, maintain cleanliness, and ensure proper functioning of bus interior.
  • Work collaboratively with bus operators and school staff.
  • Treat all students and staff with respect and compassion.
  • Participate in bus evacuation drills and perform related duties as required.
Environmental and Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and manipulate weights of 10-50 pounds. Good hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and visual acuity are required.
