Qualifications

• Experience working with children with special needs is desired.
• Strong communication and human relations skills.
• Ability to work with teachers, administrators, and students.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Knowledge of and adherence to district policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Vision and hearing are adequate to exercise job responsibilities safely.
• High School diploma, GED, or its equivalent is desired.

Responsibilities

• Administer emergency first aid if and when it is needed within the realm of training.
• Maintain discipline when students are on the bus and report negative student behavior issues to the driver and proper channels.
• Ensure passengers remain seated with belts buckled and conduct themselves safely.
• Report any safety problem or potential safety problem to the appropriate management staff.
• Participate in bus safety drill programs and maintain necessary records.
• Keep emergency evacuation plans up to date.
• Work as a team and assist passengers and the bus driver in emergencies.
• Check the bus for passengers and belongings at the end of each run.
• Know the route, stops, and which passengers should board or exit the bus.
• Assist the bus driver during backing maneuvers.
• Know and operate all emergency equipment, wheelchair equipment, passenger restraints, and two-way radio.
• Report all incidents and accidents immediately to the driver and authorities.
• Keep personal certifications up to date.
• Be flexible and willing to perform other duties as assigned.
