Job summary

Alabaster City Schools is seeking a Substitute Bus Aide to assist the bus driver and help ensure the safe transport of students.

Qualifications

• Alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of students by buckling in seats and securing wheelchairs.
• Keep students seated and under control during transportation.
• Assist students with crossing the street.
• Assist with loading and unloading at home and at school.
• Escort students to the responsible adult at school.
• Account for students' personal belongings and messages.
• Assist bus driver with keeping an updated file of students assigned to the bus.
• Familiarize self with forms, safety equipment, emergency procedures, bus route, pickup points, and wheelchair lift equipment.
• Deal with emergency physical problems during loading, transporting and unloading.
• Notify school officials of unusual events or behaviors.
• Cooperate with school staff on handling behaviors and physical management.
• Contact and obtain acceptable substitutes when absent.
• Understand and uphold system rules, policies, and procedures.
• Respect confidentiality of information about students and staff.
• Be regular and punctual in attendance.
• Follow procedures for signing in daily and securing substitutes.
• Maintain proper and professional relationships with students and staff.
• Promote good public relations.
• Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Transportation, Principal

JOB GOAL: To maintain the safe conduct of students to and from school and to aid the bus driver as needed.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ensure safety of students by:

   2. keeping them seated and under control during transportation
   3. assisting them with crossing the street
