Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) for the 8 North Burn Unit in Stony Brook, NY. This full-time position involves assessing patients, creating care plans, administering direct care and medications, and ensuring infection control within a busy hospital unit.

Required NY nursing license with a Bachelor’s in Nursing preferred and at least one year of acute care experience. Pre-employment clearances and references are required.

Qualifications

• Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and at least one year of previous hospital acute care experience.
• Only licensed nurse experience in an acute care facility will be counted toward RN1 experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate activities with other health disciplines.
• Develop a written individualized care plan including teaching needs and discharge planning.
• Administer direct care when professional nursing skills are needed.
• Administer medications.
• Practice infection control and maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Communicate changes in patient’s condition to Charge RN/Clinician.
• Develop and maintain the written plan of care and set patient/family goals.
• Document patient/family teaching and ensure alignment with physician instructions.
• Collaborate with staff and departments; participate in quality assurance activities.
