Job summary

Shriners Children’s Texas in Galveston is seeking a full-time Pediatric Intensivist to care for critically ill children in a 15-bed PICU. The role focuses on high-acuity burn cases, sepsis and shock, with a diverse patient population referred regionally and internationally.

The team includes APPs, residents, and fellows providing in-house coverage and teaching. The position offers 7-on/7-off scheduling, opportunities for academic involvement, and participation in translational research.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Pediatrics residency.
• Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine completed.
• Board certification or eligible in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
• Eligibility for active and unrestricted medical licensure in the state of practice.
• DEA eligibility.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers and PALS certifications.
• Credentialing and privileging by the medical staff per bylaws.
• Strong knowledge of pediatric pathophysiology, pharmacology, and ICU procedures.
• Leadership, decision-making and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic critical illnesses in pediatric patients.
• Provide advanced life support including mechanical ventilation and vasoactive medications.
• Perform critical procedures such as intubation and central line placement.
• Collaborate with subspecialists, nurses and therapists to ensure comprehensive care.
• Coordinate with surgical teams to stabilize critically ill patients.
• Discuss diagnosis and prognosis with families compassionately.
• Mentor trainees and participate in clinical research and quality initiatives.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation and ensure patient safety.
