Job summary

Congruex seeks a Buried Crew Foreman to lead underground utility crews, supervise excavation and installation activities, and ensure safety and quality on projects. You will coordinate field operations, manage subcontractors, and deliver underground construction projects efficiently and on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily activities of underground crews (excavation, conduit installation, backfilling, restoration).
  • Operate and oversee heavy equipment (backhoes, excavators, loaders, rollers).
  • Coordinate subcontractors, materials, and resources for timely completion.
  • Read blueprints and communicate project status to customers and leadership.
  • Inspect sites for safety hazards and ensure OSHA/compliance.

Job Summary:

As the Buried Crew Foreman, you will be responsible for managing underground utility construction crews, overseeing excavation and installation activities, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. You will coordinate field operations, manage subcontractors, and deliver underground construction projects efficiently and on schedule. Your customers include broadband operators, utility providers, internal construction teams, and project stakeholders, and you will contribute to the company’s success through leadership, operational excellence, quality workmanship, and safe project execution.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
  • Manage daily activities of one or more underground construction crews, including excavation, conduit installation, utility placement, backfilling, restoration, and related activities.
  • Operate and oversee heavy construction equipment, including backhoes, excavators, loaders, asphalt rollers, and related equipment.
  • Schedule and coordinate subcontractors, materials, equipment, and resources to support timely and efficient project completion.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, work orders, and project specifications and communicate project status and field conditions to customers, utility owners, local officials, subcontractors, and company leadership.
  • Inspect job sites, identify safety hazards, and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Monitor crew productivity, provide training and guidance, and complete daily reports, production documentation, and project records while ensuring assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools are properly maintained.
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
Experience
  • 3–5 years of underground dry utility construction experience.
  • Experience supervising construction crews and managing underground utility projects.
  • Experience operating heavy construction equipment in utility construction environments.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, utility drawings, construction plans, and project specifications.
  • Ability to safely operate backhoes, loaders, excavators, asphalt rollers, and other heavy equipment using CAT and DEERE controls.
  • Strong knowledge of underground utility construction methods, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with crews, subcontractors, customers, utility owners, and management.
  • Ability to travel between job sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or willingness to obtain.
  • OSHA certification.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish language skills.
  • Experience supporting telecommunications or broadband infrastructure projects.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs., with occasional lifting up to 150 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and sit for extended periods.
  • Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions and around heavy equipment, active roadways, and underground utilities.
  • Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of crew members, equipment, vehicles, and surrounding work areas.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and safety boots.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
