Job Description

Long Term Substitute (LTS) Instructional Paraeducator at Flaherty Elementary School/ LINKS Program

This position is a temporary assignment to provide coverage during a maternity leave. The anticipated assignment is September 1, 2026 through October 1, 2026.

The Braintree Public Schools is seeking caring, collaborative, and student-centered Instructional Paraprofessionals. The LINKS program is designed to support students with autism and related developmental needs through inclusive and specialized learning environments.

Working under the direction of a special education teacher and related service providers, the Instructional Paraprofessional provides instructional and behavioral support to help students successfully access the curriculum, develop independence, and participate in classroom and school activities.

Paraeducators support students in accessing curriculum, participating in school activities, and developing academic, social, communication, and functional skills. Responsibilities vary according to the needs of students and program assignments and may include:

• Reinforces and instructs learning with individual and small groups of students under the direction of the classroom teacher or specialist
• Adapts work or classroom materials under the direction of the classroom teacher or specialist Assists in observing, data collection, and the use of positive behavior supports including but not limited to token economy systems, point charts, etc.
• Demonstrates dependability, integrity, and respect for student differences and high standards of conduct
• Supports the creation and maintenance of an inclusive, student-focused, and culturally
• proficient learning environment
• Maintains strict ethical standards of student and family confidentiality
• Assists the staff in maintaining appropriate school behavior and discipline
• Facilitates and supports student’s use of positive social interactions, coping skills, and self regulation strategies
• Supervises students during school-day activities in common areas such as lunchrooms, hallways, playground, pick up, drop off, bus riding, and other central locations at the request of the building principal
• Follows the directions and assigned responsibilities as directed by the classroom teachers, special education teachers, specialists, and administrative staff
• Demonstrates self-motivation and the ability to apply and generalize new skills
• Proficient oral and written communication skills
• Participates in professional development training as directed
• Assists with clerical duties as assigned by the building principal
• Demonstrates consistent and dependable attendance, and is punctual to both work and to job responsibilities Works collaboratively, cooperatively, independently and professionally as part of an interdisciplinary team

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting students with autism and/or other disabilities
• Knowledge of positive behavior supports and strategies
• Experience with data collection and progress monitoring
• Experience supporting communication, social skills, and functional skills development
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred.
