Job summary

The State of Michigan – Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a Building Trades Crew Leader to construct, erect, repair, install and maintain structural components across facilities. The role involves supervising and training inmates in building trades and may require a Commercial Driver’s License to operate equipment.

Educational background is typically a high school diploma with five years of skilled-trade experience, including state-service equivalence at the E9 level.

Responsibilities

• Construct, erect, repair, install, and maintain doors, walls, dry wall, partitions, steps, roofs, windows, furniture, cabinets, screens, scaffolds, concrete forms, and other structural components.
• Repair and install locking mechanisms; install various flooring and finishing materials.
• Supervise and train inmates in building trades.
• May require a Commercial Driver's License to operate equipment.

This position constructs, erects, repairs, installs, and maintains doors, walls, dry wall, partitions, steps, roofs, windows, furniture, cabinets, screens, scaffolds, concrete forms, and other structural facets of a facility. Repairs and installs locking mechanisms, installs wood, ceramic, cement and vinyl floor tile, glass, ceiling tile, and doors. Supervises and trains inmates in building trades.

Position may require a Commercial Drivers License to operate equipment.

Education

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience

Five years of experience in a skilled trade, including one year of experience equivalent to the E9-level in state service.
