Job summary

University of Utah Health is hiring a Maintenance Technician to monitor and respond to building automation and alarms across campus facilities. You will assess issues, perform repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical equipment, and coordinate with trades to ensure continuous operations.

The role requires on-call availability 24/7, ability to read blueprints, and strong problem-solving, time management, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code (2012 version).
• Proficiency in basic computer functions.
• Ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Monitors building automation systems, alarms, and trouble calls.
• Responds to alarms and occupants' trouble calls promptly.
• Assesses damage and decides best course of action.
• Repairs and troubleshoots HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical issues.
• Reviews alarm summaries and adjusts BAS as needed.
• Documents daily building system problems and communicates them.
• Advises staff of situations affecting operations.
• Takes daily readings of major equipment and documents irregularities.

Responsibilities

• Monitors all building automation systems, other alarms and trouble calls.
• Responds to trouble calls from building occupants and computer alarms in a timely and professional manner.
• Assesses damage or situations, making timely decisions about the best course of action.
• Repairs and troubleshoots HVAC, plumbing, mechanical and electrical building equipment issues promptly.
• Reviews alarm summaries and adjusts the Building Automation Systems as needed.
• Regularly and consistently documents and communicates daily building system problems.
• Advises appropriate administration/trades staff of situations that may affect normal operations.
• Takes daily readings of all major equipment, including air supply temperatures, pressure relationships, water temperatures, and documents irregularities.

Qualifications

• 18 months of verified, hands‑on maintenance and repair experience in HVAC‑R, Building Automation Systems, Plumbing, Emergency Power Supply Systems, Electrical Systems, or Fire Alarm & Suppression Systems.
• Depending on department of hire, a valid State of Utah Driver's License may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Atkinson or Metasys Building Automation Systems.
• Knowledge of fire alarm systems.
