Job summary

Paylocity is seeking a Building Systems Data Engineer to support the production engineering team with data analysis and to help develop internal tooling and processes for data analysis.

The candidate will work as an individual contributor with strong technical and organizational skills, focusing on energy modeling, system performance analysis, and data infrastructure management to support commissioning activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required; mechanical or architectural preferred.
• 1–3 years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Analyze HVAC performance of systems (chilled and hot water plants, AHUs, terminal units).
• Analyze results of automated functional performance testing.
• Provide energy modeling services for design and commissioning activities.
• Review building automation system configuration.
• Perform utility bill and monitoring/verification analysis.
• Develop internal tooling for production CX activities.
• Deploy sensor packages and manage data infrastructure as needed.

Description

The Building Systems Data Engineer is responsible for providing support to the production engineering team as a data analyst and for working with the Engineering Manager to develop and maintain internal data analysis tooling and processes.

As an individual contributor, the Building Systems Data Engineer must operate with a high degree of technical competence, organizational discipline, and professional judgment.

Responsibilities:

Technical Analysis

• Analyze the performance of HVAC systems such as chilled and hot water plants, air handling units, and terminal units
• Analyze the results of automated functional performance testing
• Provide energy modeling services for design and commissioning activities
• Review building automation system configuration
• Perform utility bill and monitoring and verification analysis

Development and Maintenance of Internal Tooling/Software

• Develop internal software for production Cx activities
• Deployment of initial Cx project setups
• Manage Cx test and document templates
• Develop software for enhancing automated functional performance testing
• Develop and maintain tooling for production review at portfolio scale
• Deploy sensor packages on-site

Data Infrastructure Management

• Manage virtual machines hosting web server applications
• Manage time series databases
• Manage internal relational databases
• Manage SharePoint file storage and archival

Requirements

Skills, Experience and Professional Credentials

Bachelor’s Degree from accredited academic program in Engineering required, Preferably with Mechanical or Architectural Engineering degree.

1–3 years of relevant industry experience
