Darlington Borough Council is seeking a Building Surveyor to lead major capital projects, including retrofit schemes and planned maintenance across housing stock. You will prepare tender documentation, design specifications and valuations, and ensure projects are surveyed, scheduled, procured and contract managed.
The role requires strong IT skills (MS Office, Outlook, databases) and experience with AutoCAD, with independence and team collaboration.

The role of the Building Surveyor is critical to maintaining and upgrading the Councils Housing stock, you will be working across a wide range of high value capital projects including major capital programmes for Housing. Work includes retrofit works, planned maintenance, cyclical maintenance, large responsive maintenance work and asbestos management and to ensuring all projects are appropriately surveyed, specified, scheduled, procured and contract managed.
The post holder will be required to lead on capital projects (including Retrofit works) managing all aspects of the work from start to final accounts, this will include: preparation of tender documentation, preparation of bills quantities, design specifications, valuations on contracts and measurement of works on site, carry out the PD role under CDM. In addition, preparation of claims contracts, schedules of rates, small estimates etc. for various clients
You must have a good understanding of all retrofit grant requirements to deliver a compliant and successful scheme, this will include PAS requirements, Trustmark requirements, Retrofit Designer/assessor and Co-ordinator roles.
You must be confident with the use of IT and capable of navigating through MS Office, Outlook and have knowledge and skills in the use of databases and autocad.
You must be confident to work independently although support from the broader team is always available. We require dynamic, innovative and forward-thinking people to join our team, it is preferable that you have some experience of working in a person-centred environment or with older and more vulnerable client groups although full induction and ongoing training is provided.
