Job summary

Lowell Community Charter Public School is seeking an in- house substitute teacher for full-time with benefits. The role reports to the Principals and requires carrying out the absent teacher’s prepared lesson plans while maintaining a positive learning environment and following school procedures.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher and may have MA certification. Strong communication and cultural sensitivity are valued to support diverse students and families in our Lowell

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher required.
• MA Department of Education Certification preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Second language or language acquisition background preferred.
• Experience working with students from diverse SES backgrounds and cultures preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow the teacher's written lesson plans.
• Create a positive learning environment.
• Ensure goals of the plans are met.
• Consult with principals/staff to resolve questions or concerns.
• Comply with building procedures and schedules.
• Prepare written summaries of work completed and notes.
• Uphold student conduct code and manage classroom.
• Supervise students and maintain safety.

REPORTS TO: Principals

JOB GOALS

Carry out the absent teacher's prepared lesson plans and perform all essential functions of a teacher in the classroom.

Job Responsibilities

• Follow the teacher's written lesson plans
• Create a positive learning environment
• Ensure that the goals of the plans are met
• Consult with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns
• Comply with all building procedures and schedules
• Prepare a written summary of work completed and any special notes
• Implement effective management procedures, maintain high expectations and uphold the student conduct code
• Create a referral for any infractions
• Work cooperatively with other teachers
• Uphold computer technology acceptable use policies.
• Build a working knowledge of the curriculum.
• Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information
• Take precautions to ensure staff/student safety
• Provide appropriate and consistent supervision
• Report evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law
• Supervise non-classroom duties when assigned
• Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct
• Develop appropriate student relationships and serve as a positive role model for others
• Performs other specific job-related duties as directed

Experience/Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university, required
• MA Department of Education Certification preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Second language or language acquisition background preferred
• Experience working with students from diverse SES backgrounds and cultures, preferred
