Job summary

Science Academies of New York is seeking a Building Substitute Teacher for the 2026/27 school year at the Utica campus (Grades K-5). NYS certification is preferred but not required; bachelor’s degree is mandatory.

The role involves supporting instruction, small-group intervention, and upholding school policies in a dynamic urban environment. On-site duties include leading students to specials, managing behavior, and attending weekly meetings and events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Certification preferred but not required. Certification in ELA and Math a plus
• Experience with a diverse population of students or in an urban setting a plus
• Prior teaching experience preferred and novice teachers encouraged to apply!
• Fingerprint clearance through NYS Department of Education

SANY's Utica Academy of Science C.S. Elementary School is excited to announce the opening of a Building Substitute Teacher (Grades k-5) for 2026/27 School Year.

We have a great environment for new teachers and encourage experienced teachers to apply! New York State Certification preferred!

As a Building Substitute, you will:

• Assist with preparation and instruction
• Work closely with small groups of students and provide intervention
• Actively participate in weekly meetings and attend all school-wide events
• Implement classroom policies and procedures
• Lead students to and from specials/lunch
• Effectively manage student behavior
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned

What you need

Compensation:
