The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, Division for Children, Youth, and Families has a full-time vacancy for Building Services Supervisor.

Summary:

Supervises and performs custodial, building and grounds maintenance, and laundry duties at the Sununu Youth Services Center. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily work.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS:

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 2 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in cleaning and maintenance of an institution or public building, including some supervisory experience.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license and/or have access to transportation for statewide travel.

DETAILED TASKS (STANDARD):

DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC):
  • Schedules and assigns the daily and short-range work of subordinate building and grounds staff performing indoor and outdoor tasks to maintain cleanliness, appearance, and safety standards.
  • Inspects all work areas for quality and quantity of work to ensure adherence to standards and appropriate productivity. Evaluates job performance and contributes to employee evaluations.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning, maintenance, and laundry supplies and materials and requisitions additional supplies when necessary to ensure availability for the completion of duties.
  • Performs and supervises washing, drying and folding of laundry, and ensures distribution and collection of laundry and linen from all residential units at the Sununu Youth Services Center.
  • Performs and supervises routine custodial duties including, but not limited to, sweeping, washing, waxing and buffing floors; washing and/or dusting furniture, walls, and windows, cleaning and disinfecting lavatory areas; and removing trash.
  • Checks condition and quantity of housekeeping services supplies when they are delivered to verify accuracy of the types and numbers of received items.
  • Makes minor repairs, including replacing lightbulbs, routine plumbing, and basic carpentry. Ensures laundry equipment is maintained and notifies supervisor to arrange for more extensive equipment repairs.
  • Trains new employees in cleaning and light maintenance duties including the use of equipment and laundry operations.
  • Removes snow and ice from roadways and walkways with shovels, snowblowers, snowplows, or other suitable tools. Properly treats surfaces for ice control.
  • Operates lawn mowers and power trimmers in the performance of outdoor landscaping and grounds-keeping tasks, such as cutting and trimming grass and hedges, planting lawns and shrubs and cutting and clearing brush; to improve and maintain grounds appearance.
  • Communicates with supervisors regarding issues related to workplace safety.
