Job summary

The City of Bismarck is seeking a custodial maintenance worker to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of city buildings. Responsibilities include cleaning restrooms, dusting furniture, floor care, trash removal, and stocking supplies.

The role supports building operations with minor repairs, snow removal, and landscaping tasks, requiring basic reading/writing and math skills. Prior apprenticeship or 1–2 years of experience is expected.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship or 1–2 years of custodial experience.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Knowledge of custodial equipment and supplies.
• Knowledge of safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Clean, sanitize, and detail restrooms and locker rooms; refill dispensers and stock supplies.
• Dust and wipe furniture and fixtures.
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; strip, wax, and buff floors as needed.
• Empty and clean trash receptacles; manage waste/recycling.
• Load and organize supplies in storage areas.
• Assist with setting up and reconfiguring meeting spaces; move furniture.
• Assist with minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Support snow removal operations as required.
• Cut grass and maintain landscaping around city buildings.
• Identify and report maintenance needs to supervisor.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

• Cleans, sanitizes, and details restrooms and locker rooms; refills dispensers; stocks supplies; wipes and disinfects all surfaces.
• Dusts and wipes furniture and fixtures.
• Sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors; strips, cleans, waxes and buffs floors.
• Empties and cleans trash receptacles.
• Loads and unloads supplies; stocks and organizes storage area.
• Assists in setting up and reconfiguring meeting room; moves furniture.
• Assists with minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Assist with snow removal operations.
