Job summary

City of Bismarck is seeking a custodial maintenance worker responsible for cleaning and maintaining city buildings. Duties include restroom sanitation, floor care, equipment operation, and basic repairs. Assist with meeting room setup and snow removal as needed.

Previous apprenticeship or 1–2 years in a similar role is preferred. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, and perform basic math.
• Experience equivalent to apprenticeship/internship or 1–2 years in a similar role.
• Knowledge of custodial materials and safe handling practices.
• Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of custodial equipment.
• Ability to work safely and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Clean, sanitize, and detail restrooms and locker rooms; refill dispensers and stock supplies.
• Dust and wipe furniture and fixtures; ensure surfaces are disinfected.
• Sweep, mop, strip, wax, and buff floors; vacuum as needed.
• Empty and clean trash receptacles; maintain storage areas.
• Assist in moving furniture and setting up meeting rooms; assist with minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Assist with snow removal and grass landscaping around city buildings.
• Identify and report maintenance needs to supervisor; perform related duties.

Responsibilities and Experience

• Cleans, sanitizes, and details restrooms and locker rooms; refills dispensers; stocks supplies; wipes and disinfects all surfaces.
• Dusts and wipes furniture and fixtures.
• Sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors; strips, cleans, waxes and buffs floors.
• Empties and cleans trash receptacles.
• Loads and unloads supplies; stocks and organizes storage area.
• Assists in setting up and reconfiguring meeting room; moves furniture.
• Assists with minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Assist with snow removal operations.
• Cuts grass and maintains landscaping around city buildings.
• Identifies and reports maintenance needs to supervisor.
• Performs related duties.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Knowledge of the materials, equipment and methods used in the custodial maintenance of public buildings.
• Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of a variety of custodial equipment.
• Knowledge of safe work practices.
• Skill in decision making and problem solving.
