Job summary

Plymouth State University seeks a dedicated environmental services worker to uphold a safe, clean and healthy living environment. Under supervision, perform skilled and semi-skilled building service tasks and use power-cleaning equipment effectively.

The role requires ability to handle heavy work in varied weather, operate cleaning machinery, and follow safety guidelines including PPE and bloodborne pathogens training.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Ability to operate power-cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and perform heavy work in inclement weather.
  • Must wear and use PPE as necessary.
  • Ability to read English.
  • Ability to interact with varied client needs; good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • One year or more of related cleaning experience.
  • Positive customer service attitude.
  • Bloodborne pathogens and MSDS training.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain floors and other surfaces through vacuuming, mopping and washing.
  • Renovate floor surfaces with stripping/finish chemicals, scrubbing and buffing.
  • Clean residence hall bathrooms and restrooms to maintain a clean environment.
  • Clean windows, partitions and door glass.
  • Clean carpeted areas including shampooing.
  • Shovel or sweep snow from entrances and walkways.
  • Wash light fixtures and clean surroundings.
  • Mix cleaning chemicals using approved formulas.
  • Operate automatic scrubbers, power sweepers, vacuums and buffers.
  • Report maintenance/repair needs.
  • Sort and dispose of waste; manage recyclables.
  • Order cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under general supervision from designated supervisor, perform a variety of skilled or semi‑skilled tasks or skilled labor related to building service work for the upkeep of a safe, clean and healthy living and working environment.

Hourly rate: $15.00/hr.

Job Duties
  • Maintain floors and other surfaces, including vacuuming, mopping and washing.
  • Renovate floor surfaces, including application of stripping/finish chemical, scrubbing, scrapping, and buffing.
  • Clean residence hall bathrooms, public restrooms and athletic locker‑rooms using approved methods for handling/cleaning blood borne pathogens and other body fluids in lavatories, shower stalls, bathtubs, toilets, and urinals to ensure a clean/healthy environment.
  • Clean and/or wash windows, wall partitions and door glass.
  • Clean carpet floor coverings, including shampooing and bonneting.
  • Shovel or sweep snow from steps and immediate area at building entrances.
  • Wash/clean light fixtures.
  • Use approved methods and formulas for mixing cleaning chemicals for application.
  • Operate automatic scrubbers, power sweepers, vacuums and buffers used in building cleaning.
  • Report all items that require maintenance/repair.
  • Collect all waste material, sort recyclable materials and remove to outdoor collection bins.
  • Be responsible for ordering needed cleaning supplies as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduation or G.E.D.
  • Ability to operate power‑cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to read English.
  • Ability to interact with varied client needs; good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • One‑year or more of related cleaning experience.
  • Positive customer service attitude.
  • Blood Borne Pathogens and MSDS training.

Compensation Pay Range
