Job summary

The City of Berkeley's Planning Department is seeking an Assistant Building and Safety Manager to help oversee the Building and Safety Division, including planning, development, administration, and evaluation of operations.

The role includes managing the Permit Service Center and Plan Check program areas, interpreting codes, providing information to clients and the community, and acting as Building and Safety Manager in the absence.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in civil or structural engineering or architecture.
• Five years of experience in the review of residential, commercial, and/or industrial building and construction plans, and specifications and the interpretation and enforcement of building codes and ordinances.
• Some lead or supervisory experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Building and Safety Division operations within the Planning Department including planning, development, administration, and evaluation of operations.
• Interpret codes and regulations for a variety of assignments and provide information to clients and community members.
• Manage the Permit Service Center and Plan Check program areas.
• Act as the Building and Safety Manager in their absence.
