Job summary

City of Modesto is seeking a Building Safety Program Coordinator to lead the plan check team, promote exceptional customer service, and ensure safe buildings for the community.

Qualifications

• Three years of increasingly responsible journey level experience in the inspection and/or plan review of commercial and residential buildings.
• Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in building inspection technology or a related field.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license; ICC certifications are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of program goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for implementing building inspection program activities; implement policies and procedures.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate programs related to building inspection activities within the City; coordinate program activities across departments and with outside agencies.
• Coordinate the involvement of multiple departments for the review of permits and related land use issues to streamline processes and provide good customer service.
• Prepare periodic status reports; maintain records of findings and corrective actions; coordinate and provide training on assigned program activities.
• Represent the department at meetings, hearings, and before boards; testify and/or present information on code violations and related matters.
• Oversee the work of outside consultants and contractors; assist in the development of fee schedules.
