Job summary

The Land Use Services Department of San Bernardino County is seeking Building and Safety Engineers who will review and evaluate building plans to ensure compliance with California Building Standards Codes, County ordinances, and related regulations for new construction, tenant improvements, and modifications. Engineers I-III provide guidance to architects and contractors, prepare reports and recommendations, and must meet education and certification requirements (EIT/FE for II; P.E.

for III).

Qualifications

• Forty-Five semester units in civil/land use/structural/environmental engineering with 35 upper-division units.
• Engineer II requires EIT or FE certification and 2 years of related experience, with coursework list.
• Engineer I requires 45 semester units in specified field and 1 year of professional experience.
• ABET-accredited degree is highly desirable for senior levels.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze building plans, structural calculations, specifications and related documents for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
• Ensure compliance with California Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Green Building, Energy Codes and County policies.
• Provide technical guidance to architects, engineers, contractors and property owners on plan requirements and corrections.
• Prepare reports, correspondence and technical recommendations as required.
