Qualifications

  • General knowledge of all construction materials and methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of local and State building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes.
  • Ability to detect poor workmanship, inferior materials, and hazards of fire and collapse.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Ability to contact owners, contractors, and the public and maintain relationships.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect residential and commercial electrical, building, plumbing, and mechanical systems for compliance.
  • Read plans and blueprints and compare with work in progress.
  • Identify violations and defects and correct them where possible.
  • Communicate with building owners, contractors, and the public to ensure cooperation.
