Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions to many of the world’s top-recognized brands and companies, is actively seeking a Building Products Field/Lab Test Technician to join our Building & Construction team in Plano, Texas. The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services, along with building science solutions, to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. We serve the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry with comprehensive capabilities both in the lab and on-site.

Our Building Products Testing Solutions encompass code compliance, performance testing, and product certification, aiming to build lasting partnerships with our clients to facilitate market access success.

What are we looking for?

The Structural / Field Technician is responsible for managing entry-level testing projects under direct supervision until certified to perform tests independently. The position requires travel of at least 50%.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage entry-level testing projects under supervision until certified
  • Track and condition test specimens
  • Set up, mount, and perform standard tests on building products according to specifications and procedures
  • Check calibration of test equipment before testing
  • Analyze test results and prepare concise reports summarizing procedures and outcomes
  • Learn relevant test standards and procedures (e.g., AAMA, ASTM, NFPA)
  • Maintain tools, equipment, inventory supplies, and cleanliness of the work area
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical understanding of test procedures, specifications, and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to learn Quality Assurance policies related to test specimen control and storage
  • Construction/carpentry knowledge and experience with power tools
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds routinely
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs/ladders, crawl, push, and pull as needed
  • Follow directions and work under supervision
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and AutoCAD (if applicable)
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% as required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
