Job summary

City of McAllen seeks a Building Inspector to inspect building construction for compliance with design and applicable codes, including IBC, IPC, IMC, IFGC, IECC, and NEC, and with approved plans. The inspector approves all aspects of inspections and authorizes continuation of actual construction, ensuring safety and quality in municipal projects.

This role supports public safety and orderly growth in McAllen.

• Inspect building construction to ensure safety and proper design and compliance with the building codes, ordinances and approved plans, including IBC, IPC, IMC, IFGC, IECC and NEC.
• Approve all aspects of building construction inspections and authorize the continuation of actual construction.

Job description

Under general supervision, the Building Inspector inspects building construction to ensure safe and proper design and/or compliance with the design and applicable building codes, ordinances and approved plans; to include but not limited to the International Building Code, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, International Gas Code, International Energy Code and National Electrical Code. Employee must be responsible for the approval of all aspects of building construction inspections. Employee authorizes the continuation of actual construction.
