Job summary

The City of Warrensburg is hiring a code administrator to lead development services, building code administration and inspection efforts. You will operate in a team-based environment with a focus on pro-growth solutions and exceptional customer service.

The successful candidate will manage plan reviews, coordinate inspections, and supervise staff, while aligning with the city’s council/manager framework and growth objectives.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years experience in building construction, plan review, code administration and enforcement.
• Experience supervising and providing field training for direct reports.
• Strong customer service, written and oral communication, organization and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Interpret, administer and enforce building codes and related regulations.
• Provide development services in a one-stop shop environment to maximize collaboration and efficiency.
• Review development plans and coordinate inspections with staff and applicants.
• Lead and supervise staff, provide field training and ongoing professional development.

The City of Warrensburg (population 20,251) is located 45 minutes east of Kansas City, and is a rapidly developing community with tremendous growth potential. Warrensburg is home to the University of Central Missouri and is located near both Whiteman Air Force Base, home of the B-2 Bomber, and the Lake of the Ozarks. We are looking for a professional code administrator with well-developed skills in development services, building code administration, inspection services, an understanding of economic development and a commitment to best practices and problem-solving in a team-oriented environment.

Warrensburg operates under a council/manager form of government and this position will report to the Director of Community Development. The successful candidate must possess the following:

• Experience in building code interpretation, administration and enforcement, plan review, and providing development services in a one-stop shop environment that maximizes collaboration and efficiency.
• An understanding of economic development and a development review process that focuses on delivering quality customer service and a pro-growth strategy.
• Outstanding customer service skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, good organizational skills, common-sense, and a willingness to work independently across a variety of tasks.
• The ability to addresses conflicts, research alternatives and recommend solutions in a collaborative and problem solving approach.
• Experience supervising and providing field training for direct reports.

High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years experience in building construction, plan review, code administration and enforcement required.

First round of reviews will take place September 4, 2026. Salary range $69,116 to $91,500 D/O/Q.
