The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a full-time Building Maintenance Worker and Maintenance Technician for the Southern Territory in Memphis, Tennessee.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of skilled maintenance tasks for buildings and grounds, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work, as well as routine maintenance and repairs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and practices used in at least two of the HVAC, building, electrical, or mechanical trades.
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, construction, and air conditioning equipment for residential and commercial buildings.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to these trades.
• Skill in the care and use of relevant tools and equipment.
• Ability to detect defects and perform repairs or adjustments.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
• Proficiency in using a computer for communication and work orders.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or G.E.D., plus two years of coursework from a technical or vocational school in construction, HVAC, plumbing, and electronics, and three years of maintenance and repair experience in commercial buildings and grounds, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Certifications

• Valid State Driver’s License
• Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification (Type II or Universal) - Preferred
• Package Unit Troubleshooting Certificate - Preferred
• Forklift and Aerial Lift Operator Certificates - Preferred
• Pool Operator Certificate - Preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
• Ability to operate various tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform strenuous work, including lifting and carrying heavy objects (25-50 lbs. frequently, 50-100 lbs. occasionally).
• Ability to work at heights up to 30 ft. and outdoors in various weather conditions.
