Job summary

East Hawaii Region of Hawai`i Health Systems Corporation seeks a Building Maintenance Worker I to perform skilled maintenance, repair, and upkeep of hospital buildings and facilities. The role spans multiple trades to maintain a safe, functional environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities include inspections, preventive maintenance, supervising helpers, and executing repairs to structures and equipment, including electrical systems. Work is on site with long shifts as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Four years of experience performing a variety of building maintenance and repair work.
• Experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and level of responsibility to independently perform skilled maintenance duties.

The Building Maintenance Worker I performs skilled maintenance, repair, and upkeep of hospital buildings, facilities, equipment, and related structures. This role works across multiple building trades to help ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Regularly inspects Building and Grounds of the entire campus to locate conditions that need repair and maintenance work and assists to recommend and set priorities in conjunction with supervisor.
• Oversees preventive maintenance needs on facilities building, equipment, utilities, and vehicles as scheduled and ensures completion of tasks as required.
• Provides ongoing supervision to any “helper” level workers within the facility who assist in the work, ensuring tasks and projects are completed properly, thoroughly and timely by providing monitoring, training, and guidance with these workers.
• Make building repairs including but not limited to: dry walls, doors, window, ceilings, wood work, building forms for concrete, fences, railings, sidewall, stairways, etc
• Maintains and repairs hospital equipment and facilities, including pumps, boilers, laundry equipment, motors, pneumatic equipment, E-carts, and wheelchairs. Performs painting and refinishing, and conducts electrical repairs to lighting, outlets, switches, and related systems, including fire alarm systems.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience performing a variety of building maintenance and repair work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and level of responsibility necessary to independently perform skilled maintenance duties.

Licensure: Valid State of Hawaii Driver's License (Type 3) required (evidence of license and original copy of traffic abstract is required)

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen.
