Job summary

The Salvation Army NSC-Midlands Area Command in Columbia, SC seeks a part-time maintenance worker to clean and maintain buildings and grounds, including mowing, trimming hedges and tree limbs, and performing routine repairs.

Primary duties include minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs, vehicle maintenance, painting, and assisting in the Red Kettle campaign during November and December.

JOB SUMMARY

Cleans and maintains the buildings and grounds, including mowing, trimming hedges and tree limbs as needed, to ensure the neatness and cleanliness of the same on a daily basis; performs routine repairs and maintenance of buildings and equipment; performs minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repair work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Cleans off sidewalks with a blower.
• Collects trash from grounds.
• Assists in setting up meeting rooms; sets up tables and chairs.
• Monitors light fixtures to ensure all light bulbs are in working order; replaces light bulbs as necessary.
• Performs routine building maintenance activities; performs minor plumbing repairs required by leaking faucets and clogged toilets; performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls and paints walls.
• Performs routine maintenance checks and repairs of Salvation Army vehicles and buildings.
• Paints inside and outside of all Salvation Army buildings.
• Assembles and moves office furniture including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc.
• Drives truck in order to pick up materials and repair items needed for maintenance work.
• Cleans surroundings after each repair job; ensures that all tools are collected and surroundings are left neat and clean.
• Maintains all tools, supplies, parts, and equipment belonging to the Maintenance Department.
• This position is full-time in November and December to assist with the Red Kettle campaign. Responsibilities include setting up equipment, driving workers to kettle locations, picking up and securing kettle donations, and other duties as deemed necessary.

Facilities Cleaning Responsibilities

• Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies.
• Sweeps, vacuums, and mops floors; sweeps sidewalks.
• Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.
• Empty trash cans regularly; collects trash from grounds and cleans trash cans.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Displays special signs as needed.
• Assists in performing building maintenance and repair work.
• Provides a variety of cleaning duties and maintains the building to ensure the upkeep, neatness, and cleanliness of the same on a daily basis.
• Assists in performing groundskeeping work.
• May drive a Salvation Army vehicle to pick up and/or deliver miscellaneous items or to transport passengers.
• Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

No formal education or experience required; six months' experience performing general housekeeping duties, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Driver's License.
