Job summary

The Salvation Army in Monroe, LA is seeking a part-time Maintenance Assistant to perform grounds keeping, minor plumbing and carpentry repairs, and building cleaning. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of related experience, with physical ability for lifting and outdoor work. A valid driver's license is preferred.

This is a part-time position with benefits. Hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM and Friday 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM, totaling 58 bi-weekly

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in minor building and maintenance repairs with good skill in using hand and power tools.
• Equivalents accepted based on training/experience.

This position is responsible for :

Key Responsibilities

• Performs routine grounds keeping work to ensure the beautification of the landscape.
• Performs minor plumbing and carpentry repair work.
• Regularly cleans the building and sanitizes as necessary.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting.
• Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects (25-50 lbs.).
• Physical ability to "team lift" heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (50-100 lbs.) occasionally.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
• Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such, as rain, cold, snow, heat, or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• and
• Two years of experience in handling minor building and maintenance repairs and good skill in the use of hand and power tools,
• or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
