Job summary

The Salvation Army in Nashville is seeking a part-time maintenance assistant to perform routine building and grounds maintenance, minor plumbing and carpentry repairs, and vehicle upkeep. This role requires physical stamina and the ability to operate maintenance tools safely.

Hours up to 20 per week, Monday through Friday, with a chance to move to full-time after 90 days based on performance and organizational need. Core hours apply, and driving is required along with a valid license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of maintenance experience.
• Valid State Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine building maintenance activities and minor repairs as needed.
• Performs minor plumbing repairs for leaking faucets and clogged toilets; carpentry repairs as required.
• Maintains and services Salvation Army vehicles, monitors and replenishes fluids.
• Sweeps, vacuums, strips, mops and waxes floors; moves office furniture as needed.

Job description

This is a casual, as-needed position working up to 20 hours per week. Scheduled hours will be Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., based on departmental needs. Employees will be provided their work schedule at least two (2) weeks in advance whenever possible. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary depending on operational demands. Applicants must have availability during the designated core business hours. This position offers the opportunity for consideration for a full-time role after 90 days, based on performance, productivity, attendance, and organizational needs.*Casual employees are not eligible for benefits*This position is responsible for:Performs routine repairs and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and vehicles; performs routine grounds keeping work to ensure the beautification of the landscape; performs minor plumbing and carpentry repair work.Key Responsibilities:Performs routine building maintenance activities; performs minor pluming repairs required by leaking faucets and clogged toilets; performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls and paints walls.Performs preventative maintenance of Salvation Army vehicles; monitors and replenishes all fluid levels.Sweeps, vacuums, strips, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks.Assembles and moves office furniture including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.Ability to use and maintain maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner.Ability to maintain driving ability according to State, DOT, and Salvation Army policies, procedures, and certifications.Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.High school diploma or G.E.D ANDTwo years’ experience performing maintenance work in a general maintenance environment ORAny equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Licenses and Certifications:Valid State Driver’s License
