Job summary

Transitions LifeCare is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to ensure safe, reliable operation of our hospice campuses and grounds. You will perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance across buildings and systems, troubleshoot independently, and coordinate with vendors as needed.

The role supports a small, hands-on team, involves an on-site schedule Monday–Friday 8:30am–5:00pm with on-call duties, and offers growth into leadership opportunities through succession planning.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Active NC Driver's License.
• Experience in building, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing maintenance.
• Maintenance experience in a medical, hospice, or regulated facility preferred.
• Experience with oxygen systems, generators, and sewage pumping systems preferred.
• Completion of a skilled trade apprenticeship or technical training program preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting abilities and the ability to lift 50+ pounds; climb ladders.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance on buildings, grounds, and systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, doors, and fixtures.
• Independently troubleshoot maintenance issues and coordinate with vendors or in-house repairs.
• Maintain detailed maintenance logs for equipment and systems (HVAC units, generators, oxygen systems, life-safety systems, water heaters, sewage pumping).
• Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to identify safety concerns and maintenance opportunities.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours maintenance issues.
• Safely use hand and power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
• Coordinate complex repairs with external contractors when required.

This position is responsible for routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance across campus and branch locations, working independently with minimal supervision in a small team environment.This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on, self‑directed professional who enjoys troubleshooting, working with tools, coordinating vendors, and making real‑time decisions in the field. This role is designed to grow over time, with a clear opportunity to take on expanded responsibility and advance into a supervisory or managerial position as part of our long‑term succession planning.

The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm; on-call rotation.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a backup to the Facilities Manager as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
• Participate in cross‑training and leadership development in preparation for future supervisory or management opportunities.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Active NC Drivers License
• Experience in building, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing maintenance.
• Maintenance experience in a medical, hospice, or other regulated facility preferred.
• Experience with oxygen systems, generators, and sewage pumping systems preferred.
• Completion of a skilled trade apprenticeship or technical training program preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting abilities, including coordinating warranty issues with vendors and internal staff.
• Sensory abilities sufficient to meet communication and documentation requirements.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
• Ability to safely climb and use ladders.
