American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician for our downtown Columbus, OH headquarters. You will maintain and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing and related building systems, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include coordinating with contractors, maintaining records, and handling routine housekeeping and site improvements. Requires hands-on skills and the ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather.

Competenze

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years as Building Maintenance Technician B or 3+ years equivalent in HVAC/electrical/plumbing/carpentry.

Job Summary

We're looking for a Building Maintenance Technician to perform skilled work on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical building systems, including operation, maintenance, repair, alterations, and additions, as well as building furnishings and site improvements at AEP's downtown Columbus HQ.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

• Perform preventative/predictive maintenance on, troubleshoot, repair, install and operate various types of HVAC-related equipment, emergency generators, and general building mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment and systems in accordance with industry standards and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building codes.
• Perform general building maintenance and repair related to drywall, masonry, painting, ceilings, roofing, tile, carpets, windows and other related items.
• Monitor the work of, communicate effectively with, and/or assist others, including contractors, engaged in maintenance, construction and operation activities.
• Ensure work is completed in compliance with contract terms and conditions and in accordance with company safety, security, environmental and conduct rules.
• Perform general housekeeping duties as required, such as, assemble, move, repair, hang and adjust furniture, wall hangings, doors, windows and other office items, assist in snow removal, storm damage cleanup, lawn maintenance, spill cleanup, inventory management.
• Procure necessary quality parts and material in the most economical and accepted manner.
• Maintain records, including inspection documentation, and submit reports as required.

Education requirements are listed below:

• High school diploma or GED required.

Experience requirements are listed below:

• Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Building Maintenance Technician B or at least three (3) years equivalent experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or carpentry.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license.
• Successful completion of the HireVue assessment is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Electrician or HVAC license or CFC refrigerant certification preferred. Must be willing to pursue the certification.
• Overtime required. Overnight travel may be required. In addition, scheduled as well as unscheduled, weekend and evening shift work may be required. Will be expected to respond to emergency call out work.
• Requires working indoors and outdoors in all weather.
• Possess excellent verbal, written, organizational, problem solving and communication skills.
• Ability to read, interpret, review, revise, and correct blueprints, drawings, schematics, specifications and instructions related to the assigned work.
• Requires the ability to utilize a computer.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• List physical demands required for this job, but not limited to: Constant standing; frequent walking; occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, squatting, kneeling.
• This position requires lifting, moving and carrying equipment up to and in excess of 50 lbs.
• Work at heights.

• Compensation Grade: SP20-005
• Compensation Range: $30.53 - $38.16
