City of Meridian seeks a Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform basic to moderate building maintenance across City facilities. Responsibilities include HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, and remodeling work, plus preventative and unplanned maintenance with vendor oversight.
The role requires journey-level skills, ability to plan maintenance, and use MS Office tools. Travel is local; on-site work in various City facilities is expected.

Salary: $31.13, per hour
The Facilities Maintenance Technician’s primary responsibilities are to conduct basic to moderate level building maintenance, troubleshooting and repair work at City facilities. This involves skills and knowledge in the disciplines of carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting and remodeling. Journey-Level experience in one or more of these disciplines is highly desired but not required. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to; Preventative, predictive and unplanned maintenance of city facilities (structures, systems, components and equipment), vendor/contractor oversight, contract management, and decision making as it applies to the aforementioned areas. Incumbent will collaboratively assist with the development and enhancement of facilities maintenance methods, procedures, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting. This role is directly involved and responsible for the planning and safe implementation of internal customer projects and requests as needed. Work is performed under moderate supervision and the incumbent reports to the Business Division in Public Works.
Functional knowledge of electrical installation requirements; the appropriate use of lock out/tag out safety procedures; relevant occupational hazards and standard safety precautions; Basic understanding of uninterrupted power supplies and systems; fire alarm systems; HVAC control circuits; phone systems; large generator back-up systems; automatic emergency transfer switches; Excellent work ethic, initiative, and work organization are essential to successful performance; Ability to work under time constraints and manage priorities appropriately Must demonstrate the ability to collaborate and work effectively with others Ability to interpret plans, schematics and blueprints Ability to handle customer concerns or complaints skillfully and respectfully Ability to effectively and efficiently apply problem-solving and decision-making skills Ability to learn basic purchasing rules and procedures; Proficient technical writing skills; Working knowledge and demonstration of collaboration, communication, and coordination between peers, managers, contractors, and consultants; Ability to serve on cross-functional teams as necessary; Ability to learn and implement Continuous Process Improvement practices; Ability to work on-call or overtime as needed; Ability to learn and manage automated building system controls (e.g. HVAC, Alarms, Lighting)
Level I Building Operator certification required within 2 years of employment. Must have and maintain a valid Idaho Driver’s License.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs. Utilize a maintenance vehicle Requires driving a motorized vehicle or maintenance equipment; Indoor, outdoor, extreme weather exposure, shop environments, multiple buildings. Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids, and chemicals. Additional environmental conditions include: exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Climbing and bending at the waist, crawling, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and working at heights. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate power tools and equipment. Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively. Good vision and ability to identify all colors. Good balance and coordination on ladders and lifts. Exposure to fumes from equipment operation; May work on a variety of ladders; Will work in the area of high voltage; Working in cramped or restrictive work chambers; Working around and with equipment having moving parts; Exposure to dust, dirt, oil/grease, and gases; May work around and in areas with high noise levels.
