Building Maintenance Technician

About the role:

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain a safe and clean working environment by performing corrective and preventative maintenance on light equipment, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems and general building maintenance.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and repair vacuum pumps, re-circulating chillers, walk-in coolers, ovens and other laboratory equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities to maximize equipment efficiency.
  • Perform general maintenance and upkeep of building.
  • Perform general plumbing repairs.
  • Perform light carpentry projects.
  • Perform electrical repairs including ballast and bulb replacement.
  • Oversee HVAC systems and perform minor repairs.
  • Schedule and oversee outside contractors.
  • Uphold and enforce safety regulations as dictated and directed by corporate policy and the safety committee.
  • Participate in the hazardous waste disposal and spill response programs for the lab
  • Complete assigned duties within the laboratory safety program
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with repair and maintenance of household and commercial items (“handyman” type skills).
  • Ability to move and climb ladders.
  • Possession of good organizational skills; detail oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Possession of excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work irregularly scheduled hours including overtime and weekends if necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing or other trade skill with 3 years minimum experience.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to maintain a regular and reliable attendance and punctuality. Flexibility to work weekends - Saturday/Sunday if needed.

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to speak and hear clearly while communicating with staff, management, and clients.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for 100% of an 8-hour day.
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate power equipment and computer.
  • Average vision and ability to see to read reports and operate equipment.
