Job summary

American Electric Power in Corpus Christi, TX is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to operate, maintain, repair, and upgrade HVAC, electrical, plumbing and building systems under general supervision.

You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, coordinate with contractors, and ensure compliance with safety, codes, and company standards. Overtime and travel may be required based on workload and emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum one year of relevant HVAC, electrical, plumbing or carpentry experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Overtime, overnight travel and weekend/evening shifts may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative/predictive maintenance, troubleshoot and operate HVAC, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems.
  • Repair and install HVAC-related equipment, emergency generators and building systems.
  • Oversee contractors to ensure contract terms and safety compliance.
  • Conduct general building maintenance including drywall, painting, ceilings, roofing and flooring.
  • Move, install and repair furniture and office items; help with storm damage cleanup and lawn care.
  • Maintain records and submit inspection or activity reports.

Job Description
What You'll Do
  • Assist in performing preventative/predictive maintenance on, troubleshooting, repairing, installing and operating various types of HVAC-related equipment, emergency generators, and general building mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment and systems in accordance with industry standards and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building codes.
  • Perform general building maintenance and repair related to drywall, masonry, painting, ceilings, roofing, tile, carpets, windows and other related items.
  • Monitor the work of and/or assist others, including contractors, engaged in maintenance, construction and operation activities. Ensure work is completed in compliance with contract terms and conditions and in accordance with company safety, security, environmental and conduct rules.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties as required, such as, assemble, move, repair, hang and adjust furniture, wall hangings, doors, windows and other office items, assist in snow removal, storm damage cleanup, lawn maintenance, spill cleanup, inventory management.
  • Procure necessary quality parts and material in the most economical and accepted manner, with guidance from supervisor.
  • Maintain records, including inspection documentation, and submit reports as required.

  • Electrician or HVAC license or CFC refrigerant certification preferred. Must be willing to pursue the certification.
  • Overtime required. Overnight travel may be required. In addition, scheduled as well as unscheduled, weekend and evening shift work may be required. Will be expected to respond to emergency call out work.
