American Electric Power is seeking a skilled technician to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems across building facilities. You will assist with installation, troubleshooting and operation while adhering to safety standards and codes.

The role requires high school diploma or GED, at least 1 year in relevant trades, and a valid driver’s license. Overtime, travel, and potential certification pursuit are part of the job.

  • Minimum one year relevant experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or carpentry.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Overtime and occasional travel may be required.
  • Electrician or HVAC license or CFC refrigerant certification preferred; willingness to pursue certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preventative/predictive maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Repair, install and operate building systems and related equipment.
  • Monitor work and ensure compliance with contract terms and company safety rules.
  • Perform general housekeeping and facility maintenance tasks.
  • Procure parts and materials and maintain inspection records.

Job Description
What You'll Do
  • Assist in performing preventative/predictive maintenance on, troubleshooting, repairing, installing and operating various types of HVAC-related equipment, emergency generators, and general building mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment and systems in accordance with industry standards and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building codes.
  • Perform general building maintenance and repair related to drywall, masonry, painting, ceilings, roofing, tile, carpets, windows and other related items.
  • Monitor the work of and/or assist others, including contractors, engaged in maintenance, construction and operation activities. Ensure work is completed in compliance with contract terms and conditions and in accordance with company safety, security, environmental and conduct rules.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties as required, such as, assemble, move, repair, hang and adjust furniture, wall hangings, doors, windows and other office items, assist in snow removal, storm damage cleanup, lawn maintenance, spill cleanup, inventory management.
  • Procure necessary quality parts and material in the most economical and accepted manner, with guidance from supervisor.
  • Maintain records, including inspection documentation, and submit reports as required.

  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Physical demand level is Medium
  • Electrician or HVAC license or CFC refrigerant certification preferred. Must be willing to pursue the certification.
  • Overtime required. Overnight travel may be required. In addition, scheduled as well as unscheduled, weekend and evening shift work may be required. Will be expected to respond to emergency call out work.
  • Requires working indoors and outdoors in all weather.
  • Requires the ability to utilize a computer.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: List physical demands required for this job, but not limited to: Constant standing; frequent walking; occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, squatting, kneeling.
  • This position requires lifting, moving and carrying equipment up to and in excess of 50 lbs.

Compensation Range: $25.99 - $32.49
