Job summary

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) in Phoenix seeks a skilled Building Maintenance Specialist to oversee repairs, construction, and day-to-day upkeep at the Phoenix Complex. You’ll maintain plumbing, electrical, HVAC, kitchen equipment, and utilities to keep critical systems running safely.

In this hands-on role, you will perform preventive maintenance, ensure work meets national and local building codes and OSHA standards, and supervise inmate work crews.

Qualifications

  • Experience in building maintenance or related trades.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
  • Work in a correctional environment.
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License and compliance with state employment prerequisites.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and plan maintenance projects with pricing and materials.
  • Perform maintenance and preventive tasks and document per policy.
  • Inspect and maintain tools and equipment; ensure proper working order.
  • Supervise inmate workers and evaluate performance.
  • Attend staff meetings and training; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Drive on state business.

Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a skilled facilities maintenance individual to oversee repairs, construction, and day-to-day upkeep at Complex - Phoenix. You’ll help maintain essential systems and equipment, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, kitchen equipment, and utilities.

In this hands-on role, you’ll perform assigned preventive maintenance and ensure work meets applicable national and local building codes, as well as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

Job Duties:
  • Schedule and plan maintenance-related projects including pricing, material list, equipment and needs
  • Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required and scheduledCompletes related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment to include computers, internet research, and completion of documents
  • Conducts inspections and maintains tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and all are accounted for
  • Supervises and evaluates inmate worker’s performance
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
  • Drives on State business
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codes
  • Trades, e.g., electrical, electronic, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general facility maintenance, preventative maintenance, etc.
  • Budgeting to include estimating costs and ordering materials
  • Common and specialized tools for performing duties
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and national and local building codes/regulations

Skill in:

  • Basic reading of blueprints and schematics
  • General construction
  • Mechanical devices
  • Electrical

  • Using and demonstration of common and specialized tools

Selective Preference(s):
  • On the job training as a technical or generalized maintenance staff person
  • High school diploma

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
