Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a Building Maintenance Specialist for ASPC Safford/Tonto Unit to perform routine maintenance, repairs, and preventive tasks across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and related systems. Your duties include planning projects, supervising inmate crews, and ensuring safety standards are met.

The role requires working in a prison environment, with background checks, drug screening, and medical exams.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of structural and utility systems, blueprints, codes and safety practices.
• Trades in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and general facility maintenance.
• Budgeting to estimate costs and order materials.
• OSHA guidelines and local building regulations.
• Ability to use common and specialized maintenance tools.

Responsibilities

• Plan maintenance projects with pricing, material lists, equipment needs.
• Perform maintenance and preventative tasks as scheduled.
• Document maintenance work per policy and supervisor direction.
• Inspect and maintain tools and equipment for proper operation and tracking.
• Supervise inmate workers and evaluate performance.
• Attend staff meetings and training as required.

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking for a qualified Building Maintenance Specialist to be routinely involved on a daily basis types of duties, and tasks of general facility maintenance, repair, construction to include preventative maintenance and assignments as well, but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, kitchen equipment repairs, and utility service systems within the Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC) – Safford/Tonto Unit.

Job Duties:

• Schedules and plans maintenance-related projects to include pricing, material list, equipment and needs
• Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required and scheduled
• Completes related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor
• Basic knowledge of office equipment to include computers, internet research, and completion of documents
• Inspects and maintains tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and all are accounted for
• Supervises and evaluates inmate worker’s performance
• Attends staff meetings and training as required, and perform other duties appropriate to the assignment
• Drives on State business
• Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of:

• Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codes
• Trades, e.g., electronic, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general facility maintenance, preventive maintenance, etc.
• Budgetary issues to include estimating costs and ordering materials
• Common and specialized tools for performing duties
• Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and national and local building codes/regulations

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.
In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
