Job summary

Appalachian Power is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician B in Grundy, VA to maintain and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems. You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, and ensure compliance with safety and codes.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 2+ years in building maintenance or 3+ years in related trades, a valid driver's license, CAST certification, and ability to read blueprints and operate computer systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Building Maintenance Technician B or at least three (3) years equivalent experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or carpentry.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Successful completion of the CAST (Construction and Skilled Trades) test is required.
• Overtime and overnight travel may be required; weekend and evening shifts possible.
• Ability to read, interpret, review, revise blueprints, drawings, schematics and specifications; ability to use a computer.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative/predictive maintenance on HVAC-related equipment, emergency generators, and building systems per codes.
• Perform general building maintenance including drywall, masonry, painting, ceilings, roofing, and related items.
• Monitor and assist others, including contractors, ensuring work complies with terms and safety rules.
• General housekeeping and operational duties such as moving furniture, snow removal, inventory management, and spill cleanup.
• Procure quality parts and materials cost-effectively and maintain records and required inspections.
