An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Building Inspector to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations. Under the general direction of the Building Official and the supervision of the Senior Building Inspector, the Building Inspector performs field inspections of structures, including foundations, framing, roofs, gas and refrigeration systems, and electrical wiring. The role certifies that structures comply with the city's building codes, interprets codes, and has authority to halt construction violations. Responsibilities include reviewing building plans, issuing permits, and inspecting residential, commercial, and other developments within the city.
This is a part-time, limited-term position lasting approximately 90 days. Recruitment is ongoing and may close at any time without notice. Early application is encouraged.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience as a building inspector, journeyman, contractor, or in a similar role in building construction. High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with courses in architecture, engineering, or related fields.
License & Other Requirements
Certification as a Combination Inspector and a valid California Driver's License.
Physical Requirements
Work involves both office and outdoor environments, with exposure to elements and construction hazards. Must be able to perform physical tasks such as climbing, crouching, crawling, and working in confined spaces, with appropriate mobility, vision, hearing, and dexterity.
Additional Information
This is a non-exempt position with overtime pay for hours exceeding 40 per week. Employment requires passing a background check and medical exam. The City is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all relevant laws.
