Position/Program Information

TYPE OF RECRUITMENT: OPEN COMPETITIVE - EMERGENCY

The LA County Board of Supervisors has ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency due to recent natural disasters, including windstorms and wildfires. The Department of Public Works seeks qualified candidates for an emergency Safety Inspector position to support recovery efforts. Initial employment may be up to 90 days, with potential for permanent employment based on performance.

Essential Job Functions

A Safety Inspector is responsible for:

  • Performing safety inspections and training personnel on safety standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA standards.
  • Investigating accidents and preparing reports.
  • Analyzing safety records and recommending improvements.
  • Training supervisors and distributing safety materials.
  • Maintaining safety records and participating in safety committees.
  • Evaluating safety procedures and conducting safety training sessions.
Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Option I: Two years of experience as a Safety Assistant.
  • Option II: College degree in Safety, Engineering, or related fields plus one year of relevant experience. A Master's degree may substitute for experience.

License: Valid California Class "C" Driver License or alternative transportation.

Physical Class: Moderate (Class III) – requires standing, walking, lifting, and working on irregular surfaces.

Additional Information

Applicants must meet the County status as a Safety Assistant. Educational documents must be submitted within five days of application. The initial assessment will evaluate performance, with successful candidates considered for permanent appointment.
