Job summary

Lexington City is seeking a Building Inspector I/II/III to perform building and housing code inspections and re-inspections for compliance with NC Building Codes and local laws within the Business and Community Development Department.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid NC driver’s license, and multiple years of building inspections or two Level II/III COQB certificates; deadline to apply is September 17th.

The Building Inspector I, II, III performs responsible skilled technical work conducting building and housing codes inspections and re-inspections for compliance with NC Building Codes and other state and local laws for the Business and Community Development Department.

  • Valid NC driver’s license or valid out-of-state driver’s license with the ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within sixty days of employment and good driving record
  • Two years of experience in any of the four construction trades (building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing) or similar field
  • One Standard Level I Certificate from the NC Code Officials Qualifications Board or ability to obtain a Building Level I Standard Certificate within one year of employment
  • Valid NC driver’s license or valid out-of-state driver’s license with the ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within sixty days of employment and good driving record
  • Four years of experience in building inspections
  • Standard Level I Certificates in two of the following trades from the NC Code Officials Qualifications Board (NC COQB): building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical;
  • One Level II Certificate in either building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical trade from the NC COQB
  • One Level II Certificate in an additional field from the NC COQB or ability to obtain within one year of employment
  • Valid NC driver’s license or valid out-of-state driver’s license with the ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within sixty days of employment and good driving record
  • Six years of experience in building inspections
  • Standard Level I Certificates in all four of the building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical trades from the NC Code Officials Qualifications Board NC (COQB)
  • Two Level II Certificates in either the building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical trade from the NC COQB
  • One Level III Certificate in building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical trade from the NC COQB or ability to obtain within one year of employment

Schedule

Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm. Paid Bi-Weekly.
