Job description

Under general direction of the Community Development Director or his/her designee, the Building Inspector performs technical work in enforcing compliance with building codes, regulations, and ordinances, including the International Building Code (IBC), Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), and Nevada Administrative Codes (NAC). This is an entry-level position in the Building Inspector series, involving plan review and field inspections of new and existing structures for code compliance.

Building Inspector I

$58,308.17 - $79,468.06

1. Any combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities, typically including:

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• At least 1 year of responsible experience in inspections, code enforcement, or building trades;
• Preferred experience in plan examination;
• Combination of experience and education.

Required certifications include ICC Residential Inspector and ICC Commercial Inspector within 12 months of hire. Additional certifications are preferred. Must possess a valid Nevada Driver License and pass a criminal background check.

Building Inspector II

$64,361.30 - $84,751.52

1. Typically requiring:

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• At least 2 years of responsible inspection or construction experience;
• ICC Residential and Commercial Inspector certifications;
• ICC Residential Plans Examiner within 12 months and ICC Commercial Plans Examiner within 24 months of hire.

Additional certifications are preferred. Must possess a valid Nevada Driver License and pass a criminal background check.
