Job summary

IBTS seeks an experienced Building Inspector to inspect residential and commercial structures for code compliance in St. George, LA. You will evaluate foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life-safety systems, review plans, and issue corrections with professional independence.

Responsibilities include coordinating with contractors and city staff, maintaining records, and testifying when required. A Louisiana driver license and active ICC certifications are essential.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in ICC building codes and local/state regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
• Strong math and report writing skills.
• Independent work style with solid time management.
• Knowledge of construction materials and methods across trades.
• Ability to identify code violations and corrective actions.
• Familiarity with City of Lafayette? Code/UDC and LSUCC.

Responsibilities

• Inspect residential and commercial structures for compliance with codes.
• Evaluate foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire/life safety.
• Review LSUCC, City Code, UDC, and approved plans for compliance.
• Issue notices and stop-work orders; document violations.
• Respond to inquiries from contractors, architects, developers, and the public.
• Assist with inspection scheduling and plan reviews.
• Conduct inspections under Building Official authority and LSUCC classifications.
• Investigate citizen complaints related to construction or permits.
• Review and interpret blueprints and construction plans.
• Ensure jobsite workers are properly licensed and report violations.
• Maintain inspection records and related clerical tasks.
• Provide code interpretation guidance to coworkers.
• Communicate effectively via email/phone/in-person.
• Perform emergency inspections as needed, outside business hours.
• Understand UL Designs, products, and systems.
