City of Royal Oak seeks a Building Inspector to enforce the State Construction Code and City Zoning Ordinance, inspect new and existing buildings, review plans, and approve permits. The role includes problem identification, reporting, and coordination with other inspectors.
Strong knowledge of construction methods and codes is required. Applicants must have a high school diploma, Michigan registration or eligibility for Building Inspector and Plan Reviewer, and a valid driver’s license.
ABuilding Inspector is responsible for the enforcement of, and determination of compliance with the State Construction Code and the City's Zoning Ordinance. In addition to the inspection of new construction and existing buildings, the employee may perform a variety of other inspections. Assignments and work methods are outlined in detail and performed under the general supervision of the Building Official and Deputy.
Employees who possess the required inspector certification(s) receive an additional $5.00 per hour certification premium for all regular hours worked.
