Grounds/Building Maintenance Substitute Rate: $24.90/hour
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of a Maintenance Supervisor, perform grounds maintenance work and basic building maintenance work.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Layout, install, maintain and repair irrigation systems
- Prepare soil, plant trees, grass and shrubs; apply weed and pest control chemicals; pick up paper and perform general grounds cleaning
- Operate aerator, trencher, weed eater, rototiller, concrete grinder, power mower, sprayer, truck, skiploader, tractor, power saw, hand tools, lifts and forklifts
- Mix, pour, spread and finish concrete in the construction of walkways, planters, driveways and walls; make minor repairs to asphalt paving; construct brick walls; grind concrete.
- Install, maintain and repair playground equipment
- Perform basic building maintenance duties and repairs
- Assist in setting up rooms for special events as needed
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Design and installation of irrigation systems
- Tree, shrub and lawn planting and care
- Weed and pest control chemicals, fertilizers
- Methods, tools and equipment used in concrete finishing and asphalt paving
- Basic building maintenance techniques, procedures, methods and materials
- Grounds maintenance tools and equipment
- Strong understanding of current health, safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA standards and school district-specific safety protocols.
- Integrated pest management
ABILITY TO:
- Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems
- Plant and maintain trees, shrubs and lawns
- Apply fertilizers, weed and pest control chemicals effectively and safely
- Construct items from concrete and brick
- Perform basic building maintenance
- Understand and follow oral and written directions

- Lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds
- Lift heavy objects using proper safety techniques

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma, GED, or certificate of completion, and two years grounds and building maintenance experience.
