HDR is seeking a Business Group Manager (BGM) to lead and grow our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in the Washington Area.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow: Build and lead a high-performing design team across multiple disciplines — Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Control Systems, Fire Protection, and BIM.
- Inspire excellence: Foster a strong team culture focused on quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Lead with purpose: Support company policies, mentor technical staff, and contribute to planning, proposals, and client engagement.
- Drive impact: Support projects in multiple diverse markets; take responsibility for program development strategies, new business prospects, technical services, quality, and production methods and standards within established goals and objectives of the business group, region and company.
- Manage operations: Develop, implement and maintain an effective area business group program for the Building Engineering Services team; collaborate in preparation of annual revenue forecasts and budgets; monitor performance of the business group; help identify and win projects that match the expertise and developmental goals of the staff.
- Deliver projects: Serve as a Project Manager, Program Manager, and/or Principal‑In‑Charge as applicable.
- Collaborate broadly: Work closely with regional and national leaders across business groups to align strategy, support marketing efforts, and drive growth.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a professional, architectural, engineering or closely related field.
- A minimum of 10 years experience.
- Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams.
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values.
- Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.
- Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers.
- Attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must.
Preferred Qualifications
- Maintain a professional or engineering registration and have related technical experience.
- Strategic thinking to balance technical leadership with business development.
